About EI

Epidemiology International (EI) was founded in 1985 by Shira Kramer, Ph.D. Epidemiology International is a full-service epidemiological research and consulting firm.   Our scientific team has conducted epidemiological studies for clients in industry, academic institutions, federal and state agencies, the legal profession, and professional trade organizations.  In 1995 Dr. Kramer also founded Sterilex Corporation, a company that develops antimicrobial technologies for infection control in health care, food protection, and water treatment.

EI has conducted case-control, cohort, and community epidemiological studies which focus on environmental and occupational risk factors for disease.  The company has experience in retrospectively constructing job-exposure matrices for complex manufacturing facilities, and utilizing these matrices in the conduct of nested case-control studies.  EI has performed numerous weight-of-evidence causation analyses, and has provided expert testimony in toxic, environmental, and pharmaceutical tort cases.  The company also has expertise in genetic epidemiology with research aimed at identifying novel genetic risk factors for complex diseases, with a focus on pathways (candidate gene approaches) and gene-environment interactions.

EI scientists have had extensive experience in building, maintaining, and analyzing data from large databases.  These databases include national cancer registries, state cancer registries, employer health plan databases, the National Health Interview Survey, employee health and job history/industrial hygiene databases, and a national database of information about all foreign medical graduates in the US.   EI scientists provide statistical support in the planning of new studies and work successfully in a team environment with clinicians, statisticians, programmers and others.  EI scientists routinely design statistical studies, analyze large databases, and combine quantitative and qualitative methods to inform public health policy.
